A Modern Partisan - Un partisan d'aujourd'hui
(En français ci-dessous)
During World War II, the Belarusian Soviet Republic was the scene of intense partisan warfare. After the war, it was thus celebrated by Soviet propaganda as the Partisan Republic. To this date, this myth survives and memorials in every single village celebrate the feats of the partisans. In today's Belarus, under president Alyaksandar Lukashenka's authoritarian regime, opposition groups are true to this heritage. Indeed, illegality is often the only way to keep on fighting. One of those modern partisans is the human right defender Alies Byalyatski. He is now on trial and facing three to seven years in jail.
