A Modern Partisan - Un partisan d'aujourd'hui

A Modern Partisan - Un partisan d'aujourd'hui

During World War II, the Belarusian Soviet Republic was the scene of intense partisan warfare. After the war, it was thus celebrated by Soviet propaganda as the Partisan Republic. To this date, this myth survives and memorials in every single village celebrate the feats of the partisans. In today's Belarus, under president Alyaksandar Lukashenka's authoritarian regime, opposition groups are true to this heritage. Indeed, illegality is often the only way to keep on fighting. One of those modern partisans is the human right defender Alies Byalyatski. He is now on trial and facing three to seven years in jail.

Not to be cattle
Syarhey Mihalok

Belarusian rock'n roll has two pillars: Lyavon Volski and Syarhey Mihalok. The former is mostly known as the ex-singer and writer of the group N.R.M (Незалежная Рэспубліка Мроя – Independent Republic of Dream) whereas the latter has been leading the Ляпіс Трубяцкой (Lyapis Trubyatskoy) for more than 20 years. If Volski is more reserved in his critique of Alyaksandar Lukashenka's authoritarian regime, Mihalok explicitly denounced what is happening during recent interviews.
